Driver Suffers Medical Episode Before Crashing Into Google Building in Kitchener
Waterloo Regional Police say no additional information will be released “out of respect for those involved” after a vehicle slammed into a building in Kitchener on Tuesday evening.
Emergency crews were called to the area of Breithaupt Street around 6:12 p.m. on Dec. 9, following reports of a serious single-vehicle collision involving a Ford Explorer.
According to the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS), a 66-year-old Kitchener man was driving southbound when he experienced a sudden medical episode. Police say the incident caused the vehicle to veer off the roadway and crash directly into the building located at 51 Breithaupt St., home to Google’s Kitchener office.
The driver was resuscitated at the scene by first responders before being transported to Waterloo Regional Health Network – Uptown for further treatment.
Police have declined to release further details, citing respect for the individuals involved.
The intersection of Breithaupt and Moore streets was closed for several hours Tuesday night as officers conducted the initial investigation and crews handled cleanup and structural assessment. The building sustained significant damage as a result of the impact, police said.
